We completed a waterfront landscape at this stunning residential property on the shores of Georgian Bay in Thornbury, ON. The home is located high above the water level, and we were thrilled with the opportunity to create a landscape design that allowed our clients to have useable and functional living spaces throughout the elevations of the slope from the home to the water.
Working with the existing deck, we cut space for a hot tub, laid the pad, and tucked it into the structure with boulders. Next to the hot tub, we installed a patio with locally sourced jumbo flagstone for a fire pit, and ample seating for the whole family. Both of these areas boast expansive views over the water – perfect for relaxing! Stepping down toward the water, we cleared a wooded area and reinforced the slope against erosion with a remarkable wall of boulders. At the foot of this wall, we graded and laid a multi-functional living area. A custom steel pergola structure was fabricated to create a shaded area to dry off or read under, and we built a FSC®-Certified Kebony® wood deck for it to stand upon. Kebony® is engineered to handle the harshest of conditions, making it ideal for our extreme weather climate. Around the deck is a gravel area, perfect for storing paddle boards and kayaks during the summer, but a boat launch system also fits in this space to keep the boat safe from the elements over the winter.
The landscape was finished with a sustainable planting plan for the garden areas, rock gardens, and landscape lighting to keep the area useful – and beautiful – even after the sun sets.
